Here
we have my third and final assignment for my "Beginning
Painting" class at the Glassell School of Art in Houston.
The goal was to paint in a style called "a la prima,"
which, loosely translated, means "fresh." That
is, rather than use a "tight," fastidious method
a la Rembrandt and other Dutch masters, we were instructed
to go with the flow, paint quickly, and not premeditate
one's brush strokes too much. In my experience, sometimes
the less preplanning you do, the better the end result.
My
friend Chris P managed to guilt this masterpiece out of
my possession and into his. Last I checked, it is collecting
dust in the back of his closet. |
