Badland (2002)

Painting (oil on canvas); 16" x 20"

This was actually a still life that turned into something entirely other (to me, it looks like a frisky current of bayou water under an overpass ... with tangerines floating around?). The vitality of this piece owes to the assignment's parameters: only a palette knife could be used, that is, no brushes allowed. My first attempt going brushless had not gone well, so I had my doubts the second time around. The early goings were disappointing, but I hung in there and managed to pull out a small victory, if I do say so myself.
