"Detritus"
represents the culmination of my years-long efforts to cultivate
a compelling abstract painting that articulates my interest
in organic-geometric forms and a narrative/mystery of some
sort. I like to think I achieve all of the aforementioned
with what you see above, the lastest in a long line of incarnations
over the years (see below for one of the earlier ones --
ick).
The
multifarious imagery -- portals, plants, roots, cellestial
bodies, embryos, fetal forms, birth, life, decay -- almost
led me to call this "The Cycle of Life," but that
just didn't have the same ring to it as "Detritus."
In any event, what's in a name? All that matters in the
end is having a nice, purty "pitcher" to conceal
the fuse box in my hallway.
