'A Good, Steady Job': The Biography of Judge Homer Thornberry. I am currently in the midst of shopping around a manuscript with the aforementioned title in hopes of getting it published some day and available at a bookstore near you.

It's a tale worth telling and preserving. Homer Thornberry, my grandfather, was a federal judge, a U.S. Congressman, and a close friend of Lyndon Johnson. He helped spearhead desegregation and deinstitutionalize discrimination at the height of the civil rights movement from both branches of government in which he served. He nearly made it to the Supreme Court. True story.

But that's just scratching the surface of what amounted to an incredible, rags-to-prominence life that he lived. The man deserves a biography, and if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. The result was a labor of love -- a historical narrative-memoir hybrid that I hope does him justice (pun intended). I'll keep you posted on its status. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that a publisher goes for it.

One of the items on my to-do list once I finsihed my manuscript was to create my grandfather's own Wikipedia entry, but it appears somebody beat me to the punch.
